Located in a place so unique that it surpasses the normal attractions of landscape and culture, the New San Juan de la Peña Monastery Hospedería stands on the southern wing of the building’s former location. We are on the meadow of Saint Indalecio. With the notable influence of the nearby Old San Juan del Peña monastery, one of the artistic jewels of our community, the importance of this zone led to the protection of the monastery areas, to the point of attaining the current figure of the Protected Landscape of San Juan de la Peña and Monte Oroel.

Today, the New Monastery complex, which houses the Hospedería and the interpretation centre of the Monastery, is an example of bringing closely together the architectural proposals of diverse times. Particularly noteworthy is the harmony of an intervention that contributes contemporary sensations, both in the volumes and in the materials: copper, glass and steel. Brick and hewn stone have given way to the warmth and luminous versatility of wood and alabaster.

It has 20 rooms and five suites, as well as spacious halls for holding all types of banquets and events, both private and professional; it also offers the customer a complete spa with a swimming pool, underwater beds, sauna, Turkish bath and gym equipment.

The charming urban centre of Santa Cruz de la Serós is found at 7 km from San Juan de la Peña and it houses two Romanesque jewels to visit. The church of Santa María was a Benedictine nuns’ monastery in the eleventh and twelfth centuries and among its walls lived the women of the Aragonese nobility. Aresa, Urraca and Sancha, daughters of King Ramiro I, were his most famous guests. Their tympanum, their belfry tower and a Gothic altarpiece of the century 15th century stand out. The hermitage of San Caprasio, located at the entrance of the town, is a beautiful example of Lombard Romanesque from the 11th century.

There is a diversion of the ‘Camino de Santiago’ from Jaca to the monastery of San Juan de la Peña. It is the GR 65.3.2 trail. It can be taken about 5 km past Jaca, crossing the Gas River bridge towards the village of Atarés.
